Barley news Australia: New group leader for Gladstone strategic site

Gulnare local, Rick Sorell, has been appointed as group leader at ABB Grain’s Gladstone strategic site, ABB Grain released May 23.

Rick has 10 year’s experience with ABB, working at various grain sites in South Australia’s Mid North, most recently four and-a-half years as Saddleworth group leader. He also has worked at Gulnare and Yacka sites.

ABB’s Mid North business centre manager, Bill Vandepeer, said Rick’s focus would be on “team building and customer service” when he assumed his new role on May 29.

“I’ll focus on recruiting and training staff and presenting the type of customer service our customers expect,” Mr Sorell said.

“It’s a new challenge and I am looking forward to meeting that challenge and getting to know our local growers better, who are a valued part of our business.”

ABB’s Gladstone site next year celebrates its 50th birthday and now, with a storage capacity of more than 430,000 tonnes, is the largest inland grain storage facility in South Australia.

ABB is the largest employer in Gladstone and during the peak of harvest can employ up to 100 people.
